We have received so many phone calls and messages of encouragement from people in Calvert County who want to see this school happen – parents and teachers who are looking for a more creative learning environment; local businessmen and women who are excited by our plans to build “green”; and our community partners, who believe that the Bay Arts & Sciences Public Charter School brings something unique and important to the Calvert County community. Thank you for all of your messages of support. You convinced us that we’ve come too far not to persevere.
We listened to you when you asked us not to give up. Now we need your help! Here are two ways that you can be part of building Calvert County’s first alternative public school:
Vote in the School Board election.
Most of you are aware that Calvert County’s school board will change in November. Three of the five current members are leaving because their terms of office expire in 2008. This creates a great moment of opportunity for Calvert County residents who believe in school choice. Please get involved and support candidates for school board who are open to the idea of a charter school for our community. The candidates’ positions may be found on the League of Women Voters website: http://calvert.lwvmd.org/.
Make your voice heard.
There are many other ways for you to show your support for the school. Sign our electronic petition. Write a letter to the editor of the Independent or the Recorder explaining why you think alternative schools are so important. And finally, come to our community events. We will be hosting a series of community forums this fall and winter to offer information about our school. Check our www.baspcs.org or wait for emails for the event dates.
Thank you for continuing to believe in the power of innovation and parents’ voices. We could not do this without each one of you.
