April 11, 2008 - Maryland State Board of Education Reconsideration Response
After hearing oral arguments on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, the Maryland State Board of Education reconsidered their response to the Friends appeal regarding our charter school application with Calvert County. Maryland State Board of Education voted to vacate their first order - the one that directed Calvert County Public Schools to work with the Friends of the BASPCS toward approval of the charter - and to uphold Calvert County's denial of our charter.
One state board member, David Tufaro, wrote a dissenting opinion that was published with the state Board's final opinion. Mr. Tufaro's opinion essentially stands by the Maryland State Board of Education's first order.

February 26, 2008 - Maryland State Board of Education Appeal Response
On Tuesday, February 26, 2008, the Maryland State Board of Education considered our appeal and released their decision regarding the Friends of the Bay Arts & Sciences Public Charter School application for a charter school in Calvert County. They have directed both parties – the BASPCS Board and Calvert County Board of Education – to work cooperatively to address these issues and, most importantly, to work toward approval of the charter application.

On Monday, October 22, 2007, the Friends of the Bay Arts & Sciences Public Charter School submitted an appeal to the Maryland State Board of Education.

On Thursday, September 20, 2007, the Calvert County Board of Education voted to reject the Friends of the Bay Arts & Sciences Public Charter School application for a charter.

November 12, 2006 - Chart School Public Meeting Held
On Sunday, November 12, 2006, the Friends of the Bay Arts & Sciences Public Charter School held a public meeting in Prince Frederick, MD. The focus of this meeting was to inform the community of our mission, plans, and progress. We received several calls before and after the meeting from people who are interested in participating in the development of the school.
